Come celebrate our second annual Fob Alumni Invitational, which brings together work by multiple generations of Fob Holders, each embracing the idea of contact.
In Printing, there is often a call-and-response between the artist, the matrix they use to produce their image, and the final result of the print. The space between the making and the final result can be conversational, sometimes harmonious, and at other times, with elements lost in the distance between the two points.
Add><Contact: Fob Holder Invitational brings together the work of artists who have been part of the Fob Holder Program at Second State Press. In this exhibition, current and former Fob Holders were paired to correspond, make an artifact of the conversation, and create work from the experience. Over a shared preferred form of communication, whether letter, voicemail, DM, or otherwise, these artists used their conversations to shape choices, topics, or strategies for making artwork. This exhibition includes artifacts of these experiences that document, illustrate, or reflect their dialogues. These artifacts are displayed alongside their individual works and a few collaborative works. The result crosses many different printmaking techniques, expanding into painting, writing, and sculpture. This collection of work demonstrates the spirit of the Fob Holder Program and Second State Press, where relationships are forged over the shared vocabulary of print and expand into many possibilities.
Functioning as a work/trade residency hybrid, the Fob Holder Program provides support to the operations and community of Second State Press in exchange for 24/7 access to the studio and facilities. Printmaking studios are collaborative spaces that host artists working on individual, distinct projects alongside one another. This is reflected in the generations of Fob Holders who are conversant through their shared practice of print and service to Second State Press.
A special thank you to former Fob Holder and board member Lauren Pakradooni for establishing this year’s exhibition.
