Ditto Riso Micro-Residency
Welcome to DITTO, an experimental Risograph micro-residency.
We seek one emerging printmaker to use our Risograph and exhibition space as a site for exploration, ideation and production. DITTO prioritizes play, risk-taking, and experimentation: supporting work that pushes beyond conventional Riso formats and expectations. Whether it’s larger-than-page prints, animation, sculpture, or anything else your heart desires, DITTO is the place to make the prints that expand what Risograph printing can be.
Rooted in Second State Press’s mission to support innovation in printmaking, DITTO provides dedicated time, space, and access to a digital duplicator to an artist interested in deep, hands-on engagement with the risograph medium.
Selection is highly competitive and based on the strength of the application and the quality of previous work and experience. To increase the impact of the residency on our greater community, the selected resident will host two open studios to discuss the progress of their residency in conjunction with Second Thursday. One artwork completed during the residency will be donated to Second State Press’ permanent archive.
The DITTO micro-residency will run from March 3rd until April 30th, 2026.
The ideal candidate for this residency should demonstrate:
Familiarity with Risograph printing. This residency does not provide technical instruction and is best suited to an artist who possesses the skills to work independently.
Experience working in a community studio space.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Experience engaging with the public about their practice. The format of the residency is public-facing at all times and will require meaningful engagement with an audience of diverse knowledge and interest in printmaking.
Hunger to take their practice to the next level by utilizing the time to its fullest.
A need for the time and space that the residency provides.
The selected resident will receive:
Exclusive access to our RZ990 Digital Duplicator two days a week during open studio hours, 16 hours a week for 8 weeks. These days will be scheduled with the SSP team upon selection of the artist.
Printing free of master and ink fees.
Supplied paper for proofing.
Use of our exhibition space as a personal studio space.
Use of one (1) flat file.
