Silk Fan Suminagashi

Sunday, November 1st
12:00pm-3:00pm

11/1/26 Silk Fan Suminagashi
$85.00

Suminagashi translates to “spilled ink” and is the Japanese art of marbling by floating sumi ink onto the surface of water. In this workshop, students will learn the basics of this centuries-old monoprint technique, exploring the tools, materials, and fluid process used to create delicate, one-of-a-kind patterns.

Working with silk fans as our printing surface, participants will experiment with floating ink, manipulating patterns, and transferring their designs onto silk. The result is a functional, wearable object that showcases the unpredictable beauty of suminagashi!!

Mindful, meditative, and accessible to beginners, this workshop is an opportunity to slow down, experiment, and make something beautiful by embracing the movement of water and ink.

All materials provided, no experience necessary.
