This is a 2-session workshop.
April 25th & 26th
11:00am-5:00pm
Students in this class will learn the entire process of stone lithography, a centuries-old printmaking medium in which an image is drawn on and printed from a limestone
The lesson begins with a demo on how to grain a limestone to prepare it for drawing. After drawing, students will be guided through the process of chemically etching their stone. Then, students will learn how to ink their stone and operate a litho press to print an edition.
Participants will go home with a set of black and white litho prints and an understanding of the medium.
No prior experience is necessary. All workshop materials are provided.
Bonus studio time included! Intro to Litho comes with three additional hours of studio time. Use it to keep working on your stone, refine drawings, pull more prints, or just spend more time getting to know the process at your own pace. Studio time can be used anytime during SSP operating hours. Please note: this is self-guided studio time; instructors will not be on site.
