DIY Recycled Papermaking

Learn everything you need to know to get started making your own handmade paper from home!

In this class, participants will learn how to recycle their junk mail, paper scraps, and misprints into gorgeous handmade paper from start to finish. Students in this class will learn how to use a mould and deckle and prepare recycled paper pulp. All participants will pull sheets of their own homemade paper that will be theirs to take home and use for their own art-making. Students will be introduced to artistic variations such and will have time to experiment with the papermaking process with instructor guidance. All materials will be provided for this workshop, but participants are invited to bring any papers they’d like to recycle! This workshop is open to all levels of experience.

Instructor: Heather Steckler

Heather Steckler is a printmaker, papermaker, and collage artist from New Jersey. Her interdisciplinary work explores the ways we preserve memories through the images and objects we hold dear to us. Heather formerly served as both a fob holder and an event coordinator at Second State Press. She holds a BFA from Tyler School of Art & Architecture and recently received her MFA in Printmaking and a Graduate Certificate in Book Arts at the University of Iowa. She is currently based in Philadelphia, PA, where she continues to share her love of print media and papermaking through community workshops.
