The Risographed Word

Saturday, April 18th
2:00-5:00pm

$85.00

The Risographed Word
will explore the use of Riso printing in the creative presentation and reproduction of writing. The instructor will guide students through a generative writing exercise. Students will draw from the results to create a visual composition using techniques like collage and black-out poetry. The group will print their projects on the Risograph, gaining an understanding of the machine along the way.

All workshop materials are provided.

What’s Riso?
A “Riso” (Risograph digital duplicator) is a cross between screen printing and a photocopier. Like a screen print, color layers are printed one at a time through a stencil—but with the speed and automation of a copy machine! Riso printing is known for its signature grainy texture and bright, transparent inks.

Our current Riso colors are Black, Cornflower Blue, Yellow, Mint, and Fluorescent Pink.

Instructor: Mary Violet

Mary Violet is an interdisciplinary poet residing in Philadelphia. They completed their B.A. in Poetry in the desert. In 2020, they started an ongoing project, Warped Cherub, which focuses on the intersection of fashion and poetry by means of recycling both tangible and verbal experiences.
