PECO Second Saturdays

 

PECO Second Saturdays at Second State Press is our FREE public program that allows families and students to come together and learn about printmaking every second Saturday of the month from 12 – 2pm. Each workshop is family and student centered giving one-on-one opportunities to make art!

 2018 September: Under the Sea with Cyanotypes   Saturday, September 8th from noon-2pm   Say "goodbye!" to summer by celebrating the ocean and making prints with the sun! We will look at different ocean inspiration like shells, coral, seaweed, and of course sea creatures - to create our very own cyanotypes. There will be imagery provided and children and their grown ups can also draw their own!  Instructor:  Ashley Limés Castellana

In this workshop, students will use textured materials to imagine and print a summer picnic feast. All participants will experience printing on one of our etching presses! Saturday, April 14th from noon-2pm   Join artist Josh Graupera in working together to print a group map of our lives, neighborhoods and surroundings! Each participant will print two fabric swatches-- one to add to the collective map and one to take home. Come ready will your printing arms and a full imagination.

Saturday, February 10th from noon-2pm   Families will work together to create Valentine’s Day themed art and cards using both screen printing and relief printing. Participants will have the opportunity to create multiple unique prints to keep or to give as a valentine to loved ones and friends. Suitable for ages 5 & up.

 2017 November: A Space to Hibernate   Saturday, November 11th from noon to 2 PM   In the fall, any animals are preparing to sleep out the winter until spring time- Learn about animals that hibernate with SSP and screen print a cozy space for your favorite animal! We will be screen printing animals like bears, skunks, and frogs and creating warm dens for them to hide out the winter. There will be a collaborative component where you can add your sleeping animal to a poster diagram. Perfect for ages 5 and up.  Instructor: Ashley Limes-Castellana

 2017 April: Seed Saver Screen Printed Books   Saturday, April 8th from noon- 2pm   Spring is in the air and it’s time to enjoy the green outdoors! In this workshop, book artist J. Pascoe will teach students how to make their very own pocket book. Using screen printing, each book will be unique with printed images of Pennsylvania-native and home-garden plants. These Seed Saver Screen Printed Books are ideal for storing seeds or other small treasures. Each participant will leave with a book that they have made and some seeds to store and then plant at home. Suitable for ages 5 and up.   Instructor:  J. Pascoe
