Karen Lightner retired from the Free Library of Philadelphia in January of 2018. She has had several positions there during her 35 year career, including Head of the Art Department (2008 – 2018), Curator of the Print and Picture Collection (2005 – 2009), and librarian/curator/assistant department head in the Rare Book Department (1988 – 2005). She earned an MFA in Photography and Book Arts in 1981 from Visual Studies Workshop (Rochester, NY) and SUNY at Buffalo. She also serves on the board of Philadelphia Center for the Book and is a member of The Guild of Book Workers. Her main goals for retirement are actively making art again and crossing some items off her bucket list.
